A curious case of Ambush marketing

July 31, 2010 1 comment

Come 1st Aug, I would not want to wake up as the agency handling the advertising campaign for P&G and this comes as a result of a maverick repartee from one of its top competitors, HUL. It all started on July 23, when P&G launched its campaign for its Mystery shampoo which was due to be unveiled on Aug 1. But what it never planned was a counterattack from some other player in the segment (read competitor). HUL outwitted this by naming its Dove brand as the solution to the mystery. It was a quick, smart and refreshing move which certainly would have caused some jitters in the opposition. This kind of Ambush advertising is less common in India but it has the potential for opening the flood gates for other Teaser ads. So, what to expect from P&G camp now. Anything more than a terse reply for sure, since the mystery no longer remains in the Shampoo bottle.

and the show goes on…

Who said blogging is easy. I spent at least an hour or more just thinking about a name for the blog but every name which I thought of was being taken up by someone else whom I don’t know. Another proof that how we humans think alike. Today is a big day for two reasons. First, and for all not so important reasons  I (re)decide to write my mind off and Second, IPL – the biggest reality show in the history of Indian (or World) television ends today. Thanks to the one and half months of enthralling drama both on and off the field, a drama so perfect  and so vivid which would even make Ekta kapoor wince for a while.Surely, This IPL would incite mixed reactions amongst many of us and I know at least two people, who would like to forget it as a nightmare.

So as we bid goodbye to this wonderful drama, we prepare ourselves for another – The Indian Idol and thus the great Indian Tamasha goes on and an average Indian find him(her)self imbibed in it.
